MGA is a journalistic organization and a leading macro policy research service for the world's top hedge funds, institutional investors and asset managers. We live and breathe in the intersection of policy, politics and financial markets. Our global network spans G10 and Emerging Markets, and our single-minded focus on in-depth reporting and analysis helps our blue-chip investor client base navigate a constantly shifting global landscape of monetary, fiscal, regulatory, energy, political and geopolitical affairs.

What We Do

Fear and Greed have a colleague: Understanding

MGA has been the world’s leading independent macro policy research service for two decades. MGA issues reports and provides analysis on political economy in the developed world and key emerging markets. Our core strengths are global central banks, fiscal policy, politics and geopolitics, and our work in global oil and energy markets is unequaled.

Owned by the FT since 2010, we provide analysis and intelligence on monetary, fiscal and energy policy together with assessments of political risk to many of the world's leading hedge funds, asset managers and investment banks.

We don’t trade, invest or lobby. Based on decades of combined experience in the macro markets and the “sausage-making” of public policy, our research and markets teams help our clients get into the heads of policymakers and understand global economic and political trends. Our reports are independent and unbiased, reflecting the fact-gathering and analysis of our expert staff.

MGA’s non-partisan analysts and strategists won’t tell you what they want to happen, but what their experience and reporting says is happening and will happen. Their expertise lies in the knowledge about how macroeconomic and market fundamentals intersect with politics -- and what it means for markets across asset classes.

When political and policy events have a global market impact, we are there for our clients with reports and with one-to-one conversations and conference calls.

How We Do It

MGA brings together a team of the finest economic analysts, journalists and financial markets professionals and applies them to the task of deciphering what is really happening in the global political economy. For over 20 years, we have worked to deliver an understanding of the nuances of central banking, along with fiscal, currency and energy policymaking, to our clients.

Rather than providing "maintenance research", we stay on the pulse of what matters for market participants across multiple geographies and asset classes. We are dedicated to helping clients dive as deeply as they need to understand how politics and policy affect market behavior and ripple through the global economic system. Staying on the pulse of how policymakers are interpreting and responding to changing political, economic and market conditions is what we do best.

Our clients know that MGA is their eyes and ears into the policy and geopolitical developments that impact financial markets every day. We are more than just a research publication or a report in your inbox. Our unique service delivery provides unlimited conversations with our policy analysts and markets professionals who provide extensive color to the research you receive, and MGA clients are invited to frequently held conference calls that cover market-moving events in real time. As an MGA client, you will find that the breadth of our experience and global network is at your disposal. MGA's clients also appreciate the absence of bias in our research, and feel confident that our coverage is unfettered and independent. We don't invest, trade or lobby, but care only about the accuracy and timeliness of our information and analysis.

Policy Focus

Policy Focus & Expertise

Our breadth of experience in the policy world gives us unique insight into the key policy issues of concern to global markets. Because we do not defend a particular economic view, protect a market position, or promote a personal sense of what policy "should" be, our analysts can focus on understanding policymakers’ perspectives in real depth, not on imposing their own opinions.

Financial Markets Expertise

Financial Markets Expertise

Our deep knowledge of financial markets allows us to proactively identify the most timely and relevant policy issues for market participants, and to understand the complex interplay between policy and markets.

Independence

Independence

We are independent; we do not manage money, lobby for interest groups, profit from trading volumes, or issue securities. Further, we are neutral across ideologies, intellectual disciplines, and analytical approaches. This allows us to strip away biases, preconceptions, and other barriers to facilitating accurate policy insight. Our reports are not commissioned by anyone and are unbiased, based on the expert reporting, analysis, and insights of our team.

Who We Are

The MGA team comprises a hand-picked group of stellar individuals. We combine intensive research with a light touch and clear direction that allows us to meet our clients’ high standards.
